I was born and raised in a Christian family living in Falmouth, Cornwall (Southwest of England). I have 4 sisters, two older and two younger. When I was six years old, after a children’s choir rehearsal, my older sister, the leader, led us in a prayer and I accepted Christ as my personal Savior.
I went to three different schools until I was 13, after which I was home-schooled. It was while I was home-schooled that my relationship with Christ deepened and I became stronger in my faith. I was baptized by my dad when I was 14 at my home church, along with one of my younger sisters.
We were home-schooled using the A.C.E. School of Tomorrow curriculum and, as a part of that, we were able to enter into a competition (convention) for all students using the same curriculum – whether in a Christian school or as a home-schooler. My sisters and I got very involved in competing (in many different events!) and, as a result, we started doing concerts in Cornwall, performing the drama and music entries.
One of the event categories was “Scripture Video” and, being a creative person, I decided to ‘have a go’ at that. Using my mum’s home camera and editing on some basic software, I put the video together with the help of my two younger sisters. We came in first place at the European convention and then again at the International convention held in the USA. I really enjoyed the process and someone suggested to me that if I wanted to make Christian films I should go to Bob Jones University due to the high recognition of its Cinema degree program.
I had never heard of the school, but God provided an opportunity for me to stay in Anderson, SC, for two months in September/October of that year. This was only about 45 minutes away from the university so I was able to visit and look at the Cinema department. Believing that it was God’s will for me to pursue a career in video/films, I made plans to go.
I stayed on campus during my freshman year and attended one of the local churches. During one of the services I saw some missionary videos and was impressed by the extra impact of the message obtained - just by using video.
During my Junior year, I met some representatives from Baptist Mid-Missions (BMM) and this led to a video mission trip to Europe for the next summer (2004). Two friends went with me and we shot a video in Germany that has been used by BMM, a video for a mission board in Ireland, and a furlough video for a missionary couple in Italy. I enjoyed the experience of that time and felt the Lord directing me to pursue mission videography as a possible career path.
During my Senior year I got in contact with Biblical Ministries Worldwide (BMW) to discuss the prospect of doing missionary videos on a full-time basis with their board. During the summer of 2005, I went down to Georgia, where the headquarters is located, and did three weeks of candidate orientation. At the end of this I was accepted as a missionary with their organization. Since then, I have been trying to raise support as well as working on some video projects, including a trip to Romania to do a video for a Bible School and a deputation video for a new missionary couple going to Romania.
Mid-September of 2008 saw a new direction as far as ministry opportunities go. I moved to Newquay, in the South-West of England to help with a missions outreach in that area. One other couple and myself were the first of what was originally planned to be a small team working together to begin a new church. However, those plans didn't work out as originally hoped when the team following behind us pulled out.
After seeking God's will for direction for the future, the other couple are doing itinerant ministry, helping other missionaries when an extra hand would be helpful. As for me, God opened another opportunity in Southampton, England. This city is only half an hour away from my sisters and I've been able to get involved in a great church, which is a rare find in England. God is already opening up opportunities for me here with video, evangelism and discipleship and I'm getting my feet wet in the music ministry at the church. I'm looking forward to seeing what God does next!
