Too much going on!

So I’ve discovered that it’s virtually impossible to update the blog on a daily basis with a hectic schedule like the one I had on this trip to the continent.  Unfortunately, I will not be able to finish the last part of the trip – there’s just not enough time in the day with so much else I have got to do :(

Thank you to those who followed along and for your interest in the posts.  The remainder of the time in Austria went well and we had a great time in Italy.  Italy was partly an opportunity to enjoy some time off with friends, but we did quite a bit of filming too.  Tory left my company in Zurich when he flew back to the States and I continued to the European conference for missionaries with Biblical Ministries Worldwide, which was hosted in Germany.

Even at the conference I still had filming to do, so it wasn’t much of a rest, but it was so nice to catch up with so many missionary friends and enjoy the good teaching.  I stopped off in Luxembourg on the way back home to see a few friends and break up the long journey and made it back to England on the 10th of August – 6 weeks after I began this journey!  Needless to say, I took a couple of days to myself in order to recover!  I saw a lot, but it was hard work and very exhausting!

Since then I’ve been working on editing the video for the Luxembourg missionaries (the one I filmed in May).  Today is the day I burn that to DVD!  It’s so nice to have  one project complete – I’ve got several more to finish!  What a blessing to finally be able to work on these kinds of videos :)

Anyway, that’s a brief update of the last month – hopefully I’ll not get so inundated as to not be able to update you all on what’s going on!

Today we got to experience a church service in Austria.  There were a few people away, but it was a nice atmosphere and we enjoyed the fellowship of the people.  One of the guys translated the sermon for us, which was a nice surprise.

After some fellowship back at the church, we joined them at one of their houses for more fellowship with the young adults.  We had food, time to get to know each other, play games, and video some interviews.  It’s neat to hear the differences in each of the cultures we’ve been in on this trip.

We left early evening to come home to a quite evening in.  This was nice in as much as it enabled me to catch up on some more computer work.  It’s amazing how much adds up after some time of limited access!

Today was a day off.  We slept in to catch up on the lack of sleep we’ve had recently and, while Tory enjoyed the local pool and an area down town, I stayed at the house to catch up on some computer-based work that really needed to be done.  This morning I was able to work outside on the deck with the mountains as my backdrop, but a thunderstorm came in and settled in the area during most of the afternoon, which was good to cool things down a bit, but did disrupt my beautiful view!

We left Ingolstadt to make the short journey to Dachau concentration camp.  I’d been there before, but it’s always a sobering experience to be standing in the same place where many people were tortured and slaughtered.  We had no problem filming there and got some neat video to use.

Once we were done there, we bought a doner kebab for lunch.  It’s the 3rd day in a row now – it’s a great traditional lunch!

We then began our journey into the mountains to see neuschwanstein (the ‘Cinderella Castle’) on our way to next destination in Austria.  Wow – what fabulous scenery is in Austria – the mountains are incredible.  The pictures don’t do it justice.  I have a feeling I’m going to like it in Austria – I love mountains and I’m liking the slightly cooler weather!  Although I like the heat, it’s just been too hot.

Today was another travel day, but rather than head straight to our destination, we stopped off in Wittenberg in order to see where Luther preached and nailed his 95 theses.  It really has been neat to have the experience to stand in such monumental places!

From there, we drove to Ingolstadt and had a bit of a fright as we were pulled over on the highway!  Actually, it’s kinda funny because we were cruising along when a van pulled in front of us, slowed down, and flashed up a sign in it’s back window saying ‘Follow Me’.  I thought it was weird, but didn’t think anything more of it and pulled out in order to pass.  The look on their faces was priceless as we pulled alongside to pass.  Of course, at that point, they put on their blue lights and we realised they were officials!  So we pulled off the highway wondering what was wrong.  I wondered and hoped it might just be a case of having our passports checked and we were relieved when that was the case!  Whew – didn’t have a problem with fatigue after that!

We arrived in Ingolstadt to be greeted by the pastor and his family as well as another guy about my age who I had met 6 years earlier on a previous video mission trip.  It was great to be able to join both families for a BBQ and then go across the road for some good gelati!  Once we had enjoyed a nice time there, we walked back to the church and, despite being around midnight, both men agreed to be interviewed for our video.
